ALDEHYDES
Aldehydes are a family of compounds, not one scent. In perfume descriptions, the term often refers to a bright, soapy or waxy effect, sometimes with citrus-like sharpness. These facets can make a floral blend feel more abstract: a composed bouquet rather than a close imitation of one flower.
Different aldehydes smell different, and members of the family also occur in nature. Perfumery uses manufactured materials too. Their chemical classification does not tell you how clean, strong or long-lasting a finished fragrance will seem. If you enjoy the contrast of polished, sparkling freshness and flowers, an aldehydic style may be worth exploring.
