AMBER
Amber in perfume usually means a warm accord of resinous and sweet facets, rather than a single ingredient. Labdanum and vanilla-like notes form a familiar foundation, often joined by benzoin. The balance may feel soft and rounded or darker and more resinous.
This perfume accord is distinct from both fossilised amber used in jewellery and ambergris, the whale-derived material. Perfumers can construct amber effects in many ways, so the word does not reveal a fixed recipe or prove the presence of particular natural resins. When exploring amber fragrances, consider whether you prefer vanilla sweetness, balsamic richness or a drier woody setting.
