AMBROX (AMBERGRIS)
Ambrox is associated with ambroxide, a fragrant molecule linked to the characteristic aroma of aged ambergris. Perfumery materials in this family can smell ambery, woody and musky. This is a different direction from the sweet balsamic warmth of a resin-and-vanilla amber accord.
Manufactured Ambrox materials can evoke aspects of ambergris without being the complete natural substance. Commercial grades and production routes vary, so a general note name should not be equated with one supplier’s specific product. In a perfume, the effect may support woods or add musky warmth; its prominence and wear time depend on the entire composition.
