AQUATIC NOTES

Aquatic notes evoke water through an impression of coolness, air and space. They may suggest a fresh watery floral, rain-like transparency or a more recognisably marine atmosphere. Aquatic is a broad direction: it does not mean that every perfume will smell salty or like the sea.

These effects are constructed with fragrance materials rather than obtained by extracting the smell of water. A material may combine watery or airy qualities with green and floral facets, allowing the accord to connect with other parts of a perfume. For a shopper, the useful distinction is between light, transparent freshness and a stronger marine effect. The surrounding flowers, greens and woods help show which direction a composition takes.
