BALSAMIC NOTES

Balsamic notes describe a warm, resinous style with a rounded sweetness. Depending on the materials, that sweetness may suggest vanilla, soft spice or a powdery amber effect. Balsamic refers to a smell in this context; it is not a promise that the perfume has a sharp, vinegary character.

Peru balsam and benzoin illustrate different ways to produce this warm direction, but a balsamic accord does not have to contain either one. The term describes the overall impression rather than a fixed formula. If you enjoy resinous fragrances, consider whether the composition puts sweetness, dry woods or spice first. Each balance can change the feel of a balsamic perfume substantially.
