BAOBAB WOOD (ADANSONIA)

Baobab wood is a tree-inspired woody note named for Adansonia. Perfume houses use it as part of a composed impression; in Gritti's Vanilla Tana, for example, the note appears within a vanilla setting. That gives a useful context for exploration, but it does not establish one universal smell of baobab wood.

The name alone does not specify an essential oil, a particular species within the genus or an extraction process. Rather than assuming a fixed creamy or smoky character, consider the surrounding fragrance: sweet vanilla, dry woods and resinous accents would each frame the woody idea differently. This is a note for exploring how a perfumer interprets a tree, not a guarantee of a standard natural material.
