BENZOIN
Benzoin is a resinous perfumery material known for warm sweetness with vanilla-like facets. It can also have a powdery or softly spicy character, making it more textured than a simple vanilla impression. This combination places it naturally within the balsamic and ambery directions of fragrance.
Materials sold as Siam and Sumatra benzoin are related but not identical. Siam benzoin is associated with Styrax tonkinensis, while Sumatra material can have a more pronounced cinnamon-like spicy direction. Perfumery uses extracts of the resin; the general note does not identify one grade or process. If you enjoy sweet resins, compare how much the surrounding composition emphasises vanilla softness, dry spice or woody warmth.
