BLUE CYPRESS (KAKADU, AUSTRALIA)
Blue cypress has a woody scent with earthy and softly smoky facets, rounded by a gentle sweetness. A balsamic undertone, meaning a warm resin-like impression, can soften the dry wood character. In perfume, these contrasts can give a woody composition a fuller texture or provide an earthy counterpoint to flowers and citrus. The balance of smoke, sweetness and wood depends on the material and the way it is blended.
Australian blue cypress oil comes from Callitris intratropica. Producer Kakadu Blue documents steam distillation of bark and wood, rather than a leaf oil. The material is characteristically blue to blue-green, but that colour does not imply an aquatic scent. The Kakadu origin label is retained here; a note listing alone does not identify a particular producer or a finished perfume’s sourcing.
