BRAZILWOOD

Brazilwood in perfume is a wood-inspired note that can take on a spicy, floral setting. Perfumery has interpreted the image of this red wood alongside paprika and iris, bringing a contrast between wood, spice and flowers. The effect belongs to the composition rather than to a single fixed description of how every brazilwood fragrance must smell.

The name does not by itself establish that a perfume contains oil or extract from brazilwood. Nor should it be treated as another name for Brazilian rosewood. When exploring this note, look at the wood’s companions: a spicy accent or an iris-like floral frame can be more informative than assuming the material behaves like cedar, sandalwood or guaiac wood.
