CADE

Cade has a forceful smoky character, with a tar-like edge and dry woody nuances. The material comes from juniper wood associated with Juniperus oxycedrus; its scent should not be confused with a fresh juniper-berry note. The distinctive smoke can suggest charred wood and give a forest-inspired perfume a darker texture.

Rectified cade oil is a further-distilled form of the crude material used in fragrance creation. Its smoky woodiness can work beside oakmoss, clove or thyme, placing smoke within a greener or spicier setting. Those companions are possibilities, not a formula shared by all cade perfumes. When exploring the note, consider whether the composition emphasises its tarry character or balances it with herbs and other woods.
