CAMELLIA

Camellia is a floral inspiration whose perfume character depends on the interpretation. It need not mean a faint, tea-like or purely creamy flower: one documented red-camellia theme is expressed through an intense floral centre with jasmine and orange blossom, surrounded by fruit and warm notes. This is a composed bouquet, not a single smell prescribed by the name.

Living camellias are also diverse. Fragrant cultivars exist, including High Fragrance, so it would be misleading to call every camellia scentless. Equally, a perfume note does not prove an extracted camellia oil or a literal reproduction of one cultivar. When exploring the theme, consider the fullness of the flowers and the surrounding fruit, wood or sweetness rather than assuming one universally delicate profile.
