CARNATION
Carnation brings flowers and spice together. The scent of fresh petals can recall clove or cinnamon, while carnation absolute has a more pronounced floral-herbal character. This gives the note a different emphasis from a purely fresh bouquet: the flower carries its own spicy edge rather than simply borrowing the name of a kitchen spice.
The botanical flower is Dianthus caryophyllus. A natural absolute is obtained from its blossoms by solvent extraction and is used in perfumery for its spicy, floral and herbal aroma.
