CEDARWOOD (ATLAS MOUNTAINS)
Atlas cedarwood has a warm, resinous woody character. That warmth need not exclude freshness: one producer also describes a camphor-like facet, a cool aromatic edge within the wood. These aspects help explain why an Atlas cedarwood note may seem broader than a simple pencil-shavings impression, although the balance varies between oils and perfume compositions.
The natural material comes from Cedrus atlantica, the Atlas cedar native to Morocco and Algeria. Robertet documents steam distillation of its wood, and Biolandes describes distilling sawdust from the lumber industry for its Moroccan oil. This is a wood-derived material, distinct from a note specifically named for cedar needles. In perfume, its warm woody character can provide a setting for other notes without guaranteeing a particular position or longevity. A listed note does not itself prove natural-oil content.
