CEDAR LEAVES

Cedar leaves points towards green, woody freshness with a sharp, camphor-like edge. An established perfumery material called cedarleaf oil has this profile and can give lift to herbal, aromatic and woody compositions. Its emphasis is foliage rather than simply the scent of cut wood.

Cedarleaf oil from Thuja occidentalis, also called white cedar, is distilled from leaves and twigs. This tree has scale-like foliage, unlike the needles of Atlas and Lebanon cedars. The common name cedar covers several trees, so the broad note label does not by itself identify a species or prove that this oil is present. It offers a useful direction for exploring fragrances with a greener, more herbal expression of wood.
