CILANTRO (CORIANDER LEAF)

Cilantro means the leafy part of coriander, Coriandrum sativum, and gives perfume a fresh, pungent green reference. Think of crushed herbs and cut grass, with a distinctly vegetal side. It is a different material from coriander seed oil, even though both come from the same plant; the leaf character should not be treated as simply another name for the spice.

Steam-distilled cilantro oil is available for perfumery. Eden Botanicals describes its leaf oil as green and herbaceous, developing a vegetable-like nuance reminiscent of celery and carrot as it dries down. This gives a concrete reference for the note, without requiring every interpretation to have those exact facets. In a composition, its green edge can contrast with citrus or warmer accords. A listed cilantro note does not by itself confirm this particular oil.
