CITRUS LEAVES

Citrus leaves bring the green side of a citrus tree into perfume. Their character can combine leafy freshness with a tart suggestion of zest, floral nuances and a little woodiness. Rather than simply repeating the smell of the fruit, this note can connect citrus brightness with a greener, more botanical impression. Its exact character depends on the tree and the material or accord used.

Natural leaf extracts do exist: petitgrain absolute from bitter-orange leaves is one example, with green, floral, citrus-zest and light woody facets. That does not make every citrus-leaf note identical to petitgrain absolute, nor does the label specify a particular extraction. Leaves, fruit peel and blossoms are different aromatic sources. A leaf note describes the intended scent and does not by itself establish which natural material a perfume contains.
