COGNAC
Cognac in perfume can suggest a warm spirit with fruit, wood and spice, but it is not always a dark, syrupy note. The drink itself has a broad aromatic palette, including floral, fruity, oaky and dried-fruit facets. A perfume can emphasise one part of that picture: bright wine-like fruit, mellow barrel warmth or a sweeter amber impression. Kilian’s Angels’ Share, for example, places cognac essence alongside oak and tonka bean.
Perfumery also uses materials sold as cognac oils. Robertet’s white cognac oil is steam-distilled from fermented Vitis vinifera fruit and described as fruity and wine-like, with a champagne nuance. That specific raw material should not be equated with the complete smell of an aged drink. The note name alone does not identify the oil, an accord formula or a particular bottling of cognac.
