Cucumber in perfume suggests crisp, watery freshness with a green, leafy edge. The reference is to freshly cut cucumber rather than a sweet fruit syrup: a clean vegetable-like impression that can give a composition a sense of coolness. That coolness is a description of the scent, not a claim that it lowers skin temperature.

Perfumers can construct cucumber effects with aroma materials. Givaudan’s Folione, for example, can produce cucumber and violet-leaf nuances; it is one possible material, not the formula of every cucumber note. Jo Malone London’s Earl Grey & Cucumber provides a different kind of reference, pairing cucumber’s juicy crispness with bergamot, then balancing the composition with beeswax, vanilla and musk. The note name identifies a smell and does not by itself establish cucumber juice or a natural extract as an ingredient.
