CYCLAMEN
Cyclamen in perfume often describes a fresh floral idea with an airy, watery quality and a green edge. It can sit close to lily-of-the-valley-style florals rather than a dense, creamy bouquet. DSM-Firmenich’s Cyclamen Base illustrates this interpretation through soft flowers, watery notes and aldehydic freshness: a composed accord, not a flower extract.
Cyclamen is also a living plant genus, and its flowers should not all be assigned one perfume profile. The Cyclamen Society describes C. purpurascens as strongly and sweetly fragrant. Separately, cyclamen aldehyde is a named aroma molecule used in fresh floral, green and marine accords, as documented by Givaudan. A cyclamen note does not necessarily mean that particular molecule is present. Flower, finished accord and named molecule are related references, but they are not interchangeable ingredient descriptions.
