CYPRESS (FRANCE)

French cypress refers to a French-origin cypress material or the perfume note that evokes it. A documented example is Astier Demarest’s Cypress Provence oil, made from Cupressus sempervirens branches by steam distillation. Its technical sheet identifies France as the origin of both the plant and the essential oil, and describes a turpentine-like, woody and amber character.

The turpentine comparison points to resinous conifer sharpness, balanced in the description by wood and warmer amber facets. It does not mean turpentine has been added to the perfume. France is a provenance qualifier, not proof of a separate cypress species or a uniquely smoky national scent. A fragrance may emphasise the fresh resin or the warmer woody side; its note list alone does not identify this supplier’s oil or establish the sourcing of every ingredient.
