CYPRIOL (NAGARMOTHA, INDIA)

Indian cypriol, also known as nagarmotha, points to the Indian origin of a root-derived fragrance material. Eden Botanicals identifies its Indian oil as steam-distilled roots of Cyperus scariosus and describes a woody, earthy scent with peppery and smoky-leathery facets. Fraterworks also documents an Indian cypriol with earthy wood and vetiver-like nuances.

Although the smell is woody, the source described here is the underground part of a sedge, not timber from a tree. The India qualifier does not turn nagarmotha into a separate species or establish one uniform regional scent. In a perfume, its dry, earthy and smoky aspects can support a wood or leather theme; other notes determine how rugged or softened the result feels. The label alone does not verify the supplier, processing grade or origin of every ingredient in the finished fragrance.
