DRAGON FRUIT (PITAYA)

Dragon fruit, also called pitaya, gives perfume a tropical-fruit reference that can feel juicy, sweet and watery. It is not limited to a faint or transparent effect. Phlur places dragon fruit beside pineapple and watermelon in a vivid fruity-floral composition, then surrounds the fruit with flowers, vanilla, amber and sandalwood. That example shows how the note can be expressed with both freshness and a fuller, pulpy texture.

The fruit grows on climbing cacti and comes in several skin and flesh colours, depending on species and variety. The unqualified name does not select one colour or cultivar. In perfume, the botanical fruit is the inspiration; the note listing alone does not prove that a fruit extract is present. Watery companions can emphasise freshness, while creamy or sweeter notes can make the tropical impression rounder.
