ESTRAGOLE
Estragole, also known as methyl chavicol, has a sweet anise-like smell with a green herbal edge. Its spicy character can give a fragrance a more pointed aromatic accent, rather than the soft sweetness associated with vanilla. A faint phenolic facet adds a sharper dimension to this otherwise sweet profile.
The compound occurs in basil oil. MANE Kancor isolates it from that oil by fractional distillation, a process that separates components according to their different boiling points. This describes one supplier’s material, not the source of every estragole note in perfume. The isolated compound is also distinct from complete basil oil, which contains other aromatic components. In a composition, its anise and herbal facets can help connect fresh green notes with warmer spice; their prominence depends on the formula.
