ETHYL MALTOL
Ethyl maltol brings a concentrated impression of sugary caramel, with a fruity side that can recall strawberry jam. In perfume, this creates a confectionery kind of sweetness: a fruit accord may seem more like a preserve or dessert than freshly cut fruit. The effect can be a small sweet accent or a more prominent gourmand theme, depending on the composition.
It is a fragrance molecule commonly supplied synthetically, rather than an extract of caramel or malt. Its caramel character can sit alongside vanilla-like sweetness, creamy notes or soft musks, but the material is not itself vanilla.
