EUCALYPTUS
Eucalyptus has a penetrating, camphor-like freshness, often with a woody undertone and a little sweetness. In perfume, it can suggest cool aromatic air rather than juicy citrus or soft green leaves. That distinctive sharpness can bring definition to an herbal composition or cut through a sweeter background.
The name covers different botanical materials. Oils from Eucalyptus globulus and Eucalyptus radiata are steam distilled from leaves, and both can be rich in 1,8-cineole. Their profiles need not be identical: Aromatics International describes its radiata material as rounder and softer than many eucalyptus oils. Species and individual batches matter, while the perfume formula further changes the impression. A eucalyptus note is an olfactory reference, so it does not by itself identify an oil, its origin or its proportion in a fragrance.
