EXALTONE

Exaltone is a musk material with a warm, gently sweet character and a powdery softness. A subtle animalic facet can give it a more bodily impression than a purely airy, freshly washed effect. In a perfume, it may soften the outline of flowers or woods and add a quiet musky texture beneath brighter notes.

Chemically, Exaltone is cyclopentadecanone, a member of the macrocyclic musk family; macrocyclic means that its molecule contains a large ring. It is not simply a derivative of that compound, and the similarly named Exaltolide is a different molecule. Descriptions such as warm or skin-like concern the smell rather than its source. Its presence does not establish how long a finished fragrance will last, or how strongly its musk will project.
