FIR TREE

Fir tree evokes crisp evergreen needles and a dry, woody freshness, with a softer balsamic sweetness underneath. It can suggest cut branches or a conifer woodland, bringing a green aromatic dimension to a fragrance. The balance need not be uniformly sharp: some fir materials also show fruity or warmly rounded facets.

The broad note name does not identify one species or one extract. Siberian fir, Abies sibirica, provides a useful example: Eden Botanicals’ needle oil is steam-distilled and described as fresh, dry and pine-like with a sweet balsamic undertone. Balsam fir, Abies balsamea, also supplies perfumery materials, including warmer needle absolutes. These distinctions help explain the range within the fir theme; the label alone does not establish a perfume’s ingredients or the note’s position.
