FRUITY NOTES
Fruity notes describe a perfume’s resemblance to fruit, covering different textures as well as different fruit names. A melon impression can feel watery and light, while peach or plum may suggest fuller flesh and pear a juicy ripeness. Several fruit ideas can blend into one impression, so a fruity label does not necessarily promise a clearly identifiable fruit.
The effect may be composed as an accord, and fruit-derived extracts can also be part of the perfumer’s palette. Jo Malone London, for example, documents natural pear extract in its English Pear fragrances. Neither the label nor the apparent realism of the smell reveals a complete recipe. Floral, aromatic and woody surroundings can change how the fruit is perceived. Consider whether you prefer a watery impression or a fuller fruit texture rather than assuming all fruity perfumes are equally sweet.
