GENET / SPANISH BROOM

Genet, also called Spanish broom in perfumery, is associated with Spartium junceum flowers and their absolute. Its character is honeyed and floral, with a soft powdery nuance that can recall mimosa. This gives a more specific guide than a general impression of wild greenery: look for the meeting of floral sweetness and a gently powdery texture. The honey comparison describes the smell, not the addition of honey.

A documented broom absolute is made from fresh flowers by solvent extraction followed by purification with ethanol. That identifies a natural perfumery material, although a fragrance listing the note does not necessarily contain that particular extract. In a composition, the balance of sweetness, flowers and powder will vary with the surrounding notes. Explore genet if that honeyed floral softness appeals to you.
