GERANIUM BOURBON
Bourbon geranium is a name used for aromatic geranium oils with a floral character and green, minty facets. The profile can also have rosy, spicy or metallic floral nuances. Biolandes describes its Madagascan Bourbon material with green mint, tea and crushed-leaf effects, while its Egyptian material emphasizes soft rose, mint and floral spice. These examples show a family resemblance with room for variation.
The Bourbon label does not by itself guarantee that an oil comes from Réunion: documented commercial materials also carry origins such as Madagascar and Egypt. The oils are associated with Pelargonium plants and distillation of aerial parts. In a perfume, look for the meeting of floral softness and aromatic greenery. The particular material and surrounding notes determine how strongly either side appears.
