GOURMAND ACCORD

A gourmand accord is a combination of scented materials that suggests food. It might recall the sweetness of praline or vanilla, or the buttery, crumbly impression of spiced baking. Texture matters as well as flavour associations: the same broad idea can be creamy, dense or lightly crisp. The label describes an olfactory direction rather than one smell or a fixed level of sweetness.

Perfume houses take different approaches. Mugler presents praline and vanilla within a fruity, patchouli-accented gourmand composition; Jo Malone London describes a biscuit-inspired construction balancing ginger freshness with vanilla and creamy woods. These examples show how edible associations can sit alongside contrasting notes. A gourmand accord does not mean that a dessert itself has been added to the perfume. Look at the surrounding notes to distinguish a sweet confectionery effect from a more spiced or woody interpretation.
