GRAPEFRUIT PEEL

Grapefruit peel in perfume focuses on the aromatic rind of the fruit. It suggests the lively spray released by the peel, with citrus sweetness checked by a bitter edge. That combination can give a fragrance a crisp outline: the attraction lies in the tension between fruit-like brightness and a more biting, peel-like impression. It need not turn the whole perfume sour or dominate its other notes.

The rind contains glands holding essential oil. Cold pressing releases this material, a process documented for grapefruit oil by Givaudan and Biolandes. The latter describes one oil from the zest as sweet and fruity with a peel character. Peel and zest notes therefore share a close olfactory basis; neither label guarantees a separate standardized formula. A perfume may use peel oil within a broader grapefruit construction, and the note list alone does not confirm its ingredients.
