GREEN HAY

Green hay in perfume suggests a meeting of meadow greenery and the sweet, herbal impression of cut hay. Green is best read as a direction within the hay idea, rather than a precise statement about how damp the crop was when harvested. The result can feel leafy and open while retaining a softer hay-like warmth, depending on the interpretation.

Perfume houses use the term in different settings: Vilhelm Parfumerie lists green hay alongside vetiver, while Anatole Lebreton places it in a meadow-inspired composition with other green and floral notes. Neither example establishes a universal formula. Natural hay absolute also exists; Eden Botanicals describes its solvent-extracted material as sweet, herbal and hay-like. A green-hay note may be shaped within an accord, and its name alone does not prove the presence of that extract or any particular grass species.
