GREEN NOTES
Green notes describe a range of vegetal impressions in perfume, from freshly cut grass and crushed leaves to sharper, bitter resinous effects. The term names an olfactory direction rather than a single plant or ingredient. A green accord can feel crisp and open, but it can also have an earthy, woody density; green does not always mean light or watery.
Two materials illustrate this range. DSM-Firmenich describes cis-3-hexenol with fresh grass and leaf facets, while its galbanum resinoid has a bitter green character with resinous and earthy nuances. These are possible tools for creating green effects, not a standard recipe. Depending on the composition, such facets can sharpen a floral impression or bring a more vegetal edge to the fragrance. The balance with surrounding notes determines how that greenness is perceived.
