GURJUM BALSAM
Gurjun balsam has a woody, resinous character; its fragrance oil can also show spicy and leathery facets. Those drier nuances give a more textured impression than the word balsam might suggest on its own. Biolandes describes its gurjun balsam oil in these terms, offering a useful reference without implying that every source or preparation smells identical.
The natural starting material is an oleoresin, an oily resinous exudate from trees of the genus Dipterocarpus. Biolandes documents collection after incisions in the trunk and offers an oil sourced from Malaysian exudate. That origin belongs to the supplier’s material, not necessarily to every perfume listing this note. Within a composition, gurjun can support a resinous wood impression, but its presence does not guarantee a particular sweetness, strength or duration on skin.
