HAZELNUT LEAVES

Hazelnut leaves is a perfume-note name inspired by the foliage of the hazel tree, but it need not mean an entirely sharp, green scent. State of Mind describes its interpretation as adding a delicate praline touch. That is a useful example of how a leaf-named note can take a softly nutty direction within a fragrance, rather than a laboratory description of the smell of every hazel leaf.

Other compositions place the note alongside vanilla, woods and white flowers. Those companions help shape the result; they are not all intrinsic facets of the leaves. Keep the label distinct from hazelnut kernels and hazel wood, and read it as the house’s olfactory interpretation. The name alone does not identify an extraction process, a standard aromatic material or a natural leaf extract in the finished perfume.
