HELVETOLIDE

Helvetolide® combines a warm musky body with a pear-like fruity facet and a smooth undertone reminiscent of ambrette seeds. The fruitiness gives a useful clue to its character: this is more specific than a general label such as clean musk. Its manufacturer, dsm-firmenich, describes both richness and an ability to bring presence to the opening of a fragrance.

Although musk is often associated with the final stages of a perfume, Helvetolide can contribute earlier as well. Its effect depends on the composition, so it should not be assigned one compulsory place in a note pyramid. It is a synthetic fragrance material, not a pear extract or ambrette-seed oil. The pear and ambrette comparisons describe its smell. They do not establish those natural ingredients in the bottle, nor does the material’s own persistence guarantee the wear time of a finished perfume.
