HONEY

Honey in perfume suggests warm, rounded sweetness with a food-like, gourmand appeal. It can make a floral impression feel more nectarous or bring a sweet counterpoint to a drier woody composition. Some treatments feel darker or more animalic, but that is not an essential part of every honey note: a honey effect can also be deliberately smooth and food-like.

The scent can be built in different ways. Beeswax absolute is one natural material used for honeyed effects, although wax and honey are not the same substance. Other perfumery specialties combine natural material with synthetic ingredients. For example, dsm-firmenich documents a honey specialty made using beeswax and honeycomb that retain traces of honey. These methods do not establish the formula of a listed perfume. Read honey as a scent description, not proof that edible honey has been poured into the fragrance.
