ICY NOTES

Icy notes describe the impression of cold freshness in a perfume. They are a sensory direction rather than one raw material or a fixed recipe. The idea can overlap with an ice accord, but it does not by itself tell you whether the fragrance smells minty, watery or clean. Those more specific qualities come from the composition and should be checked in its description.

Different perfumers place cold effects in different settings. Oriflame pairs an ice accord with an aromatic woody fragrance, while Snif describes crisp, cold aldehydic notes within a creamy dessert theme. These examples show that an icy impression can coexist with warmth or sweetness. The label does not establish a particular molecule, prove that every ingredient is synthetic or promise skin cooling. It is most useful as a clue to the fragrance’s contrast between cool and warmer impressions.
