OLIBANUM (CHINA)

Olibanum, also called frankincense, gives perfume a resinous direction that can include woody, spicy and fresher nuances. Under a China label, the country alone does not establish a separate scent profile. A Chinese supplier, Baicao, describes its resin-distilled olibanum oil with delicate lemon and apple-peel impressions. These are characteristics of its offered material, not a rule for every perfume using this note.

The botanical reference for olibanum is gum-resin from Boswellia trees. Resin, essential oil and resinoid are different forms, so a frankincense effect need not smell exactly like burning incense. A supplier’s location also does not establish where the trees grew or the resin was collected. This catalogue label should therefore be read as a regional designation, with the exact material and harvest origin requiring separate documentation.
