OLIBANUM (SOMALIA)

Somali olibanum, or frankincense, can balance fresh citrus-like brightness with resinous warmth. Some materials suggest conifer wood and a little pepper, making the impression drier and more aromatic than a simple sweet resin. Eden Botanicals describes that combination in its Somali Boswellia carteri oil. The citrus comparison is a scent facet, not evidence that citrus fruit was added.

Somalia supplies Boswellia gum-resin for perfumery. Biolandes documents resin gathered in northern Somalia for its extracts; Eden’s particular oil is hydrodistilled from resin. Olibanum can also be supplied as a resinoid, so the regional name does not settle the extraction process or identify a single material. Nor does a natural resin automatically mean a heavily smoky scent. Look at the overall composition to see whether the brighter, woody or fuller balsamic side is most prominent; the note does not guarantee lasting power or natural-ingredient content.
