INK

Ink in perfume is an interpreted accord that can feel dark and mineral, with woody, smoky or leathery facets. It is not one uniform smell: the image of ink gives a perfumer room to combine different materials. The result may create contrast against flowers or softer sweetness without turning the whole fragrance into a literal stationery scent.

YSL describes an ink accord with mineral, animalic and smoky-leather facets, while Givenchy presents an inky composition through copper-like, woody and smoky impressions. These are particular interpretations rather than compulsory qualities of all ink notes. An accord combines fragrant materials; its name does not prove the presence of writing ink, copper or an animal-derived ingredient. The surrounding notes help indicate whether a fragrance emphasises mineral sharpness, smoke or a smoother, softer setting.
