JASMINE (GRASSE)
Grasse jasmine is associated with a full floral character and a pronounced fruity side. Dior describes its local jasmine grandiflorum in terms of floral fullness and fruit, including an apricot-like facet. This gives a useful direction for recognising the note: jasmine petals with a rounded fruit impression, rather than a purely green floral effect. The balance still varies with the extract and the perfume.
The name refers to jasmine cultivated around Grasse in southern France, notably Jasminum grandiflorum. Grandiflorum is a species grown in other countries too, so the species name alone does not mean Grasse origin. Flowers can be processed into an absolute for perfumery. Growing flowers in Grasse is also different from processing imported jasmine there. The note label conveys an origin and scent idea, while a perfume’s actual sourcing requires the maker’s information.
