JASMINE (INDIA)

Indian jasmine covers more than one floral material. Jasminum grandiflorum can offer rich jasmine warmth with fruit, green accents and a little spice; its indolic side gives the flower a deeper, slightly animalic character. Indian Jasminum sambac can also be rich and warm, with green and fruity nuances and an orange-blossom-like impression. The country name does not choose between these species.

The flowers are used to produce concretes and, after further purification, absolutes. Harvesting and processing differ between supply chains. IFF describes grandiflorum picked in full bloom and promptly extracted in India, with the concrete subsequently made into absolute in Grasse. This is one documented route, not a recipe for every Indian jasmine. In perfume, the selected species, extract and accompanying notes determine whether the floral impression feels greener, fruitier or more densely warm.
