JASMINE SAMBAC
Jasmine sambac combines rich white-flower warmth with green and fruity facets, sometimes recalling orange blossom. Its floral body can also have an indolic side: a deeper, slightly animalic impression, with occasional spicy nuances. It need not be uniformly heavier or more animalic than grandiflorum jasmine; that comparison changes with the materials being compared.
The botanical source is Jasminum sambac, a distinct jasmine species cultivated for fragrant flowers, including in India and China. Natural sambac absolute is made by extracting the flowers and then purifying the resulting material. Some flowers are picked as buds and allowed to open before extraction, so a night-blooming plant does not imply that every crop is harvested at night. In perfume, sambac can add floral fullness with green or fruit-like lift; the composition determines how these sides emerge.
