MAKRUT LIME (COMBAVA)

Makrut lime, also called combava or kaffir lime, gives a vivid citrus impression that can range from sweet, fresh peel to a more penetrating lemony-green character. The reference is Citrus hystrix. Its peel and leaves provide different aromatic materials, so a general combava note does not describe just one fixed smell.

A distilled peel oil can show a rounded citrus sweetness, while leaf oil can have a strong citronella-like effect. That resemblance describes its aroma; the plant is still a citrus, not citronella grass. Distillation is used for both types of material, so cold pressing should not be assumed from the note name. In perfume, combava can lend citrus brightness or connect that brightness with herbal green notes. The balance depends on the chosen material and the surrounding composition.
