AUSTRALIAN KUNZEA

Australian kunzea has a fresh aromatic character that brings together pine-like clarity, a eucalyptus-like edge and softer woody, spicy undertones. A little sweetness can sit behind the sharper facets. The effect is closer to fragrant foliage than a bouquet of flowers: crisp and medicinal in its smell, with a warmer woody layer underneath.

Kunzea ambigua supplies an essential oil steam-distilled from leaves and small branches. Australian producers include Tasmania among its sources, and describe the oil’s characteristic pinene-rich aroma. That botanical identity distinguishes it from tea tree, even where their aromatic impressions overlap. In perfume, kunzea can introduce a leafy, woodland-like accent or a contrast to sweeter notes.
