LAVANDIN
Lavandin has a lavender-like scent with a brisk herbal character and a noticeable camphor edge. It often feels more aromatic and less softly floral than fine lavender. In a perfume, this contrast can bring a clear, freshly herbal accent to a woody blend or a lavender-centred composition. The impression can be crisp without being purely citrus or mint.
The plant is a natural hybrid of fine lavender, Lavandula angustifolia, and spike lavender, Lavandula latifolia. Its essential oil is obtained by steam-distilling the flowering tops. Different varieties give different balances: Grosso is strongly associated with the camphor character, while Super is softer and less camphoraceous. Lavandin therefore describes a family of related aromatic profiles, rather than one fixed strength or quality. A fragrance note alone does not identify which variety or material the perfumer used.
