LAVENDER
Lavender brings together floral sweetness and the fresh, aromatic character of herbs. It can feel green and brisk at first, with a gentler woody side beneath the flowers. Some lavender oils also reveal fruity nuances: IFF describes apple and pear facets in one of its French oils. These variations explain why lavender may feel softly floral in one fragrance and more sharply herbal in another.
True lavender, Lavandula angustifolia, is an important perfumery source. Distillation of its flowering material produces essential oil; the growing location and the particular material help shape the result. It is distinct from lavandin, a related hybrid often marked by stronger camphor notes. In a composition, lavender can link the freshness of an aromatic theme with softer floral or woody effects. The note describes the scent you may encounter, rather than confirming a particular oil in every perfume.
