LAVENDER (PROVENCE)
Provence lavender suggests a floral-herbal freshness with a gently sweet side. Depending on the oil, its aromatic character may include a little camphor, a dry hay-like softness or woody undertones. In perfume, these contrasts can keep a floral composition feeling clear and aromatic or soften the edges of a fresh herbal theme. The note is not limited to one style of fragrance.
Fine lavender, Lavandula angustifolia, is closely associated with Provence, including the Alpes de Haute-Provence. Its flowering tops are steam-distilled for essential oil. It should be distinguished from lavandin, the related hybrid also cultivated in the region and often more strongly camphoraceous. Provence identifies a growing context rather than one uniform oil: different plant selections and preparations offer different balances. The regional note alone does not establish a certified origin or guarantee that every perfume contains the same natural extract.
